Nursery Diary #3: Paint & Purchases

We can check paint off the list. Check!

Sherwin Williams- "Relaxed Khaki"

We used Harmony paint. It's the non-toxic-okay-for-pregnant-people-paint. It works pretty good & I am even feeling harmonic-like feelings, not to be confused with hormonal, now that this is DONE!

I wouldn't be having these feelings if it weren't for this guy!
Dear Mr. Weekend Warrior, I love you!

He wood-puddied, he painted, he undid the nail damaged walls...

he smiled for the camera...

I even tackled a little project of my own. I painted over the PINK on the changing table.
I used the khaki color, but I'm not sure if I like it. I may go over it with a creamy blueish color.

Before:

After-ish:

Our weekend was wonderful! One for the books...
We smiled and talked a lot about our little guy. We got a lot of some stuff done and it feels good. This pictures sums it all up for me...

Life is really good!

Now onto the Purchases:

Today I stopped by a few antique stores on my way home from work/Emporia, Virginia. Just check out what I found: TREASURES!

1913 ANTIQUE WICKER BASKET BABY SCALE
$15 Bucks!

I think this will make for a cool birth announcement picture. Don't you? I can even imagine using it as baby shower decor on the food table...

(I'm tickled about this find- I just browsed ebay and found a similar one for $200)

And the Oscar goes to...

4.9lbs

I also found this:

A new office chair! (Time to chunk the old ugly one)

It's property of HBUHS... HBU High School- where the heck is that? Grand total: $10 bucks

And then this cute little Jenny Linde high chair - $15 bucks! I adore this high chair. I wanted one that looked like a piece of furniture and this one has it all + a story. The guy told me that it came from an old grandma with 19 grandchildren! Whoa!

Dear Dennis, we only have 98 days left! *Week 26*

The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. (This baby is going to come out talking about baseboards.) He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid (I need to drink more water today-he has old water), which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air. And he's continuing to put on baby fat. (He is & me is!) He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take two to three days. (In other words, I have testicles right now. Awesome.)

A 26 week note I wrote my husband today:

To my dear sweet Dennis,

We have 98 days left. 98 days... we've left the 100 day safety net. This is big. We need to paint and I need to buy the fabric. We need to choose our nanny, a peditrician, a go to a class for the birthing stuff. What if my epidural fails? I need to be trained to breathe and stare at a spot on the wall or something. We also need to name this little boy. In the next few weeks this baby will leave the fruit basket and become a melon... which no long fits in the fruit basket! I love you so can we please go to the paint store THIS WEEKEND and will you please finish the baseboards. I'm nesting and I need baseboards. Stepone: Baseboards. Nailed in and Painted. Love, Ash

Lettered Cottage Shout Out!

One of my favorite home design blogs featured our fireplace room.
Check it out:
(Note: Scroll down to the "long" mantel pictures at the bottom of the post)

Layla Palmer is an amazing designer!!!
Just look at her house! About a year ago I had her do a "virtual" design for our fireplace room. At this point, this room was pretty bare and ugly. I still love what the design she gave us ... and I STILL need to use it. :) What a cool surprise to see this on her blog tonight.
Enjoy!!!
BEFORE
Layla worked her magic...blah...blah...grose!
After
Waaaalaaa! Awesome... now I need to just do this!

Eggplant- Week 25!

Good News- we had dinner with a wonderful family last night... and the topic of conversation- Childcare! People, I think we found the perfect nanny and she lives in our neighborhood.
Oh, what a relief!
It was an excellent meeting with her and her husband. Dennis was smiling, I was smiling, they were smiling. I think we not only found someone to help us raise our little boy, but a couple of new friends.
Thank you, Jesus! :)
And... did I say I had eggplant parmesan last night. Well, I did and it was yummy and then I got this email from http://www.thebump.com/:
Let your spouse put an ear to your belly -- he might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

Nursery Diary #2- Linens and Details

LINENS & Things! Finally...
My sister, Mandy, and I spent a whole day searching the beach for the perfect linens. We found them and I STILL absolutely love/adore them. Here (again) is a picture of the before nursery:

Doot,da,da, Doooo ...

Here's my baby boy COLOR Palette!

Let me explain:

The pattern on the fabric is very cool. I going for a coastal/shabby/comfy feel in the nursery.
I'm on the hunt for a cushy cream rug with lots of texture. Stay tuned!
I've also purchased a few things:
This creamy blue chest will serve as the rocking chair side table and extra storage.
I'm thinking of putting little tulip feet on it. I told you that I have a thing for chunky-furniture-legs and cool feet.
I also purchases this Beautiful bassinet. It's going to go next to our bed while he's teeny tiny. I think I found a mattress to fit from Wal-mart and I registered for a cute green and white sheet set at Baby's-R-Us.
This bassinet and the sideboard changing table are 2 of my favorite nursery purchases!!!!

Mandy and I picked up this awesome framed bunny picture at TJMAXX.
Right now it's hanging above the changing table.
I tend to like more nautical looking pics, but I refuse to do a "theme" in the baby room.
My style is coastal and shabby... it's where starfish and bunnies can live in the same decor family. (Hope, that's for you!)

Dennis is making this little fish mobile to entertain our little guy.
I found this picture in the Serena and Lily nursery book- I suggest it for anyone in nursery decorating mode.

In other news, I want to talk about my Friends and Family! When I say I have awesome people surrounding us, I mean it!

Check out this closet:

I think I've purchased, maybe, 5% of the things in this closet.

Two of my dearest girlfriends + my sisters, have beefed-up my maternity clothes collection like you wouldn't believe. I feel Prettier and more Stylish than ever thanks to them.

And...

Then there are the baby clothes.

You can see I have 2 bins of clothes up top and half of the closet full of sweet little boutique clothes. He will most definitely be well-dressed!

And, finally, the crib:

My sweet Aunt Judy and Uncle Bobby gave us this awesome Pottery Barn crib. My litte cousin, Rosie, used it first and now our sweet little guy gets to cuddle up in it. I love that it's been used before! Plus, if I were to have my pick on the PB website- I would have totally picked this one. Pretty cool!

23 Weeks!

Watch what you say! -- baby is now able to hear outside noise from down in the womb. Studies show that baby finds gentle music and your own voice most soothing. Nipples are starting to sprout, and that little face is fully formed. And, baby's starting to settle into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It shouldn't be hard to figure out when -- just pay attention to those kicks as they start and stop. You may even be able to feel them outside of your clothes now.
Our little boy is growing! I can definitely feel him kicking all the time. He likes to kick me when I'm down... relaxing! I have lots of energy these days, so my workouts have been really good. I'm sore from Wednesday's workout.
I started working on our registry at babies-r-us today and let me tell you- it's a whole new world. I think I registered for too many sheets, but for some reason those dang things have been on my mind. weird!
In other news, I'm going to post another entry in the "nursery diary" this weekend.
Mandy, my little sister, was here last week and we picked linens (we're making everything) and other stuff! Stay tuned! I really LOVE what we chose.
:) Let the weekend begin!
